Question

Five persons A, B, C, D and E are pulling a cart of mass 100 kg on a smooth surface and cart is moving with acceleration 3 m/s2 in east direction. When person A stops pulling, it moves with acceleration 1 m/s2 in the west direction. When person B stops pulling, it moves with acceleration 24 m/s2 in the north direction. The magnitude of acceleration of the cart when only A and B pull the cart keeping their directions same as the old directions, is

Solution

The correct option is D 25 m/s2
FA+FB+FC+FD+FE=(100×3)^i(1)

If A stops pulling

FB+FC+FD+FE=(100×1)^(i)
By putting this in equation 1 we get
FA =300^i+100^i
FA =400^i N

If B stops pulling
FA+FC+FD+FE=(100×24)^j
Putting in equation 1 we get
FB =300^i2400^j
FB=100.(3^i24^j)

Now, FA+FB=(7^i24^j).100

Hence, if only A and B are pulling,
FA+FB=100.anet
100.(7^i24^j)=100anet
anet=7i24j
|anet|=25 m/s2
