Solution

Let father's age be x and his son’s age be y.

According to the question,

x+ 5 = 3 (y + 5) .....(1)

x-5 = 7 (y – 5) .....(2)

Subtracting equation (1) from (2), 4 y = 40

Hence, y = 10 and x = 40

So, the father is 40 years old and the son is 10 years old.
