Question

For a metallic conductor, what is the relation between current density (j), conductivity (σ) and electric field Intensity E?

Open in App
Solution

For metallic conductor, if specific resistance is ρ, then conductivity, σ=1ρ
According to definition of specific resistance
ρ=EJ,
where E is intensity of electric field at a point inside conductor and J is current density.
σ=JE
Or J=σE
