A. When copper is heated as shown in the above figure, it converts into copper (II) oxide which is black in appearance. This happened because copper is added to oxygen and copper oxide is formed.

Balanced equation for the above reaction:

2Cu + O2 🡪 2CuO

(black)

B. This is an example of an oxidation reaction and can also be identified as a combination reaction.

Oxidation reactions: The reactions which involve the gain of oxygen or the loss of hydrogen by the reactants are called oxidation reactions.
