Solution

The correct option is C 2M
For the given disproportionation reaction :
2+1CuBr(s)+2CuBr2(aq)+0Cu(s)
n-factor calculation,
nf=(|O.S.ProductO.S.Reactant|×number of atoms
Oxidation :
+1Cu+2Cu2+
nf=n1=|1(2)|×1=1
Reduction :
+1Cu0Cu
nf=n2=|1(0)|×1=1
Valency factor in disproportionation reaction is given by
1nf=1(nf)oxidation+1(nf)reduction
1nf=11+11
1nf=1+11×1
nf=1×11+1=0.5
Equivalent mass=Molecular mass of CuBrn-factorEquivalent mass=M0.5=2M

Equivalent mass :

Equivalent mass or gram equivalent mass =Molar massnfactor

Earlier it was expressed by taking hydrogen, oxygen, chlorine and silver as the reference elements.

Number of parts by mass of an element which reacts or displaces from a compound 1.008 parts by mass of hydrogen, 8 parts by mass of oxygen and 35.5 parts by mass of chlorine, is known as the equivalent mass of that element.
