Solution

The correct option is C 7 cm
Each medium with the given thickness will behave as a slab.
The formula for normal shift due to slab is,
S=t(11μ)
Net shift in position of coin will be,
Stotal=S1+S2
Stotal=t1(11μ1)+t2(11μ2)
Stotal=16(134)+9(123)
Stotal=164+93=7 cm
Why this question?

Tip: Visualize the medium as a transparent slab and apply principle of superposition to get net shift in position of object.
