Question

For the reaction,
2H2(g)+2NO(g)N2(g)+2H2O(g)
The observed rate expression for forward reaction is kf [NO]2[H2]2. The rate expression for the reverse reaction is:

Solution

The reaction is:
2H2(g)+2NO(g)N2(g)+2H2O(g)

If we write the expression of equilbrium constant here,
KC=kf/kb=[N2][H2O]2[H2]2[NO]2
We know that at equilibrium,
rate of forward reaction = rate of backward reaction
i.e., kf[NO]2[H2]2 = kb[N2][H2O]2
Thus, rate of backward reaction is kb[N2][H2O]2
