Friction is an evil that hampers the motion, causes wear and tear in machine parts, and causes wastage of energy, but the same friction is very necessary for us as is clear from the explanation provided below:

  1. Friction between our feet and the surface enables us to walk.
  2. Friction between the tyres and the road enables us to drive our vehicles safely.
  3. Friction between the nib of the pen and the paper enables us to write.
  4. Friction enables us to hold different things in our hands.
  5. Friction between the atoms of the heating element of an electric press produces heat which enables us to iron our clothes.
  6. Friction between the comb and the hair enables us to comb our hair and make ourselves look smart and presentable.
  7. Friction between the blades of the tractor and the ground enables us to plough our land and make agriculture possible.
