ACTH stands for adrenocorticotrophic hormone. It is secreted by adenohypophysis of pituitary gland. ACTH controls the structure and functioning of adrenal cortex, especially secretions of glucocorticoids from it. It stimulates the synthesis and secretion of steroid hormones called glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex.
