Secretions from the epididymis, seminal vesicles, prostate and bulbourethral gland together with sperm make up the fluid called as semen. Sperm makes up only 1% of semen. The rest is a fluid secretion from accessory glands, which provide fructose to nourish sperm and alkaline medium to neutralize urethral (acidity because of urine) and vaginal acidity and provides a liquid medium for sperm motility. It also contains vitamin C and trace elements like calcium, zinc, magnesium, copper and sulfur.
