Question

Gases have no definite shape or volume. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

  • In gases, the particles are very loosely packed.
  • There is more intermolecular space and the particles can move freely in all directions.
  • The kinetic energy of the molecules is high and they can move randomly in all directions. The intermolecular force of attraction is very weak than solid and liquid.
  • Gas can flow easily and occupy the entire space available.

Therefore, gases do not have a definite shape or definite volume.
