The Rowlatt Satyagraha took place in 1919 in response to Mahatma Gandhi's call for a satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act. The Act restricted the freedom of the people and gave powers of arbitrary arrest to the police. The country observed April 6th 1919 as a day opposing the Act. All over India, satyagraha sabhas were organized. The Rowlatt satyaghara was the first all India non violent opposition to the British.
