Most of the iron ore deposits in India are found in the peninsular plateau.
a. Karnataka occupies the first position Its main iron ore deposits lies in Hospet in Bellari district, Bababudan Hills , Kalahandi in Chickmaglur district etc.
b. Chattisgarh occupies the second position in the production of iron ore. it produces 22.2% total output. The major fields are found in Bailadila in Bastar, Rajhera in Durg district, Rajgarh, Bilaspur and Sarguja districts.
c. Orrisa als has iron ore deposits which are found in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Cuttak, Sambhalpur, Sundargarh etc.
d. Jharrkhand is the fifth largest producer of iron ore. It has some of the oldest iron ore mines.
e. Tamil Nadu also has iron ore deposits in Salem and Tirchipally. Andhra pradesh also has iron ore deposits in Kurnul Guntur, Nellore etc.
