Coordinate bond:

  1. The special type of bond formation in which only a single atom shares its lone pair of electrons in the bond formation such type of bonds are called coordinate bonds.
  2. These types of bonds are also known as dative or dipolar bonds.

Examples of coordinate bonds:

1. In the case of ammonium ion, the lone pair of nitrogen is shared in additional bond formation with the hydrogen atom.
