In order to understand that matter has mass, let's do an experiment.

Take two balloons, fill the air in one of the balloons while leaving the other balloon without air

Take a balance and find out the weight of the two balloons.

You can see that air filled with the balloon has a higher weight than the other balloon without air, which means air has mass.
