Contraception:
Contraception refers to preventing unwanted pregnancies and providing gaps between pregnancies during the reproductive phase of an individual's life.
Contraception can be achieved through barrier methods, hormonal pills, IUDs and natural methods.
Barrier methods of contraception:
The barrier or physical method of contraception involves using devices that prevent the meeting of sperm and ovum and hence, prevent the sperm from fertilising the ovum.
Two examples of barrier methods of contraception are-
Condoms are made of latex and cover the penis in males. These prevent sperms from being ejaculated in the vagina.
Cervical caps are in the form of rubber nipples that are fitted on the cervix of females. It prevents sperm entry at the site of fertilisation.
