Preparation of lead sulphate from lead carbonate involves two steps. That is, at first, lead carbonate is treated with nitric acid. The chemical equation for the reaction is,

$P b C O_{3} + 2 H N O_{3} \to P b (N O_{3})_{2} + H_{2} O + C O_{2}$

In the second step, lead nitrate formed is treated with sulphuric acid to give lead sulphate. The chemical equation for the reaction is,

$P b (N O_{3})_{2} + H_{2} S O_{4} \to P b S O_{4} + 2 H N O_{3}$
