It served as a group of monasteries (viharas) and temples (caityas).
Some of the caves include sleeping cells that were carved for itinerant monks.
These caves are a group of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain rock cut caves also located in the Indian state of Maharashtra near Mumbai.
