Give examples of the use of sulphuric acid as
(i) an electrolyte in everyday use,
(ii) non-volatile acid,
(iii) an oxidizing agent.
(i) Sulphuric acid is used in storage batteries as an electrolytic medium. Example: in automobiles.
(ii) Sulphuric acid has a tendency to displace volatile acids from their salts. Hence, it is used in the preparation of volatile acids. For example:
2KCl + H2SO4 → K2SO4 + 2HCl
(iii) It is used in the laboratory as an oxidising agent as it oxidises non-metals to their corresponding oxides. For example:
S + 2H2SO4 → 2H2O + 3SO2
