Question

Give one example each of the following:

Soluble salt

Open in App
Solution

1. Salts

Ionic compounds that do not give protons H+ or hydroxide ions OH- in solution are called salts. These are generally formed during the neutralization reaction between an acid and alkali. The nature of the salt formed depends on the ions that form the acid and alkali.

2. Soluble salts

Salts that are soluble in an aqueous solution are called soluble salts. They dissociate in the aqueous solution and remain in their ionic form.

An example of soluble salt is the formation of Sodium chloride NaCl during the neutralization of Hydrochloric acid HCl with Sodium Hydroxide NaOH. The formation of Sodium chloride is given by:

HClaq+NaOHaqNaClaq+H2Ol(Hydrochloric(Sodium(Sodium(Water)acid)hydroxide)chloride)

Sodium chloride remains in solution.

Other examples of soluble salts include Potassium chloride KCl, Sodium carbonate Na2CO3 , etc.
