Solution

Example of a solid in a solid solution is Brass. Brass is a mixture of Copper (Cu) and Zinc (Zn)

  • Other examples are Bronze-mixture of Copper (Cu) and Tin (Sn), Steel- mixture of Iron (Fe) and Carbon (C) etc.
  • Solid in solid solutions are called alloys
  • Alloy: An alloy is a homogeneous mixture of two or more elements in a physically combined state.
  • They are called solid solutions because in this, elements act as solvent (the substance present in a larger quantity in a solution) and solute (the substance present in a smaller quantity in a solution)

Solution: A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more components. Example: alloys, salt solution etc.

Homogeneous mixture: A mixture that has a uniform composition and properties throughout its mass is known as a homogeneous mixture. Example: alloys, salt solution etc.
