  • The molecular formula of DDT is C14H9Cl5
  • It is an organic compound that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.

Preparation:

  • DDT is prepared by heating Chloral (C2HCl3O) and Chloro benzene (c6H5Cl) by heating in a ratio of 1:2 in the presence of conc. Sulphuric acid (H2SO)4.
  • Here, in the reaction, 2 molecules of Chlorobenzene react with one molecule of Chloral (C2HCl3O) in the presence of Sulphuric acid form Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane (DDT).
