Solution

Wilting:

  1. Drooping down of the parts of the plant or the whole plant due to lack of water inside the plant is called wilting.
  2. Wilting can be temporary or permanent.
  3. Permanent wilting leads to the death of the plant.
  4. The reason for wilting can be drought or water logging.

Wilting in Balsam plant:

  1. The rate of transpiration in the Balsam plant is very high during mid-day.
  2. The transpiration rate exceeds the water absorption rate by the roots.
  3. As a result, more water is lost than absorbed and plant wilts during mid-day, even if the soil is well watered.
