  • It is a process when water is lost by the substance when exposed to air.
  • The substance which loses its water of crystallization when exposed to air is called Efflorescent substance.
  • They are hydrated substances.

If sodium sulphate is left exposed to air-

  • Sodium sulphate loses all ten water molecules when exposed to air and forms a white powder.
  • Na2SO4.10H2Osodiumsulphate(s)ā†’ExposedtoairNa2SO4(s)whitepowder+10H2O(g)
  • It is also known as Glauber's salt.
