Stainless steel is an alloy which contains Iron (80 to 90%) Chromium (10 to 1%) and other metals like Molybdenum, Nickel, Aluminium, etc 2 to 4% and carbon about 0.1 to 1%.
It is made in such a way that it becomes non-corrosive.
So, it is used for making utensils and surgical instruments purpose as it is harmless to exposed parts. Regards
