Question

Give reason :the latent heat of vaporisation of steam is more than that of boiling point .explain

Open in App
Solution

THE LATENT HEAT OF STEAM IS HIGHER THAN OF THE WATER AT SAME TEMPRATURE THIS IS BECAUSE THE PARTICLE OF THE STEAM HAVE A GREATER KINETIC ENERGY THAN WATER SO THEY MOVE WITH A GREATER SPEED
THIS PROVES THAT THE LATENT HEAT OF STEAM IS HIGHER THAN OF THE WATER
THIS ALSO SHOWS US THAT WE CAN GET MORE SEVERE BURNS THAN STEAM AS COMPARED TO THE WATER AT THE SAME TEMPERATURE

The phase change needs a lot more energy than just a temperature change. The amount of energy that is needed for a water to change from liquid to gas form is called heat of vaporization. Suppose when a steam hits your skin a phase change take place which changes the steam into liquid so a lot of energy is needed to change its phase from steam to liquid. The steam that hits the skin with a lot of energy causes damage to the skin
