Question

Give reasons :
The entropy of steam is more than that of water at its boiling point.

Open in App
Solution

For water, Δn=msΔT
ΔS=ΔnTb
For water steam
ΔS=on=mLv+msΔT
ΔS=mLv+msΔT
hence, ΔS steam > ΔS water.
Also, the molecules in a liquid are more energetic than solid but less than gas which implies more disorders that is more entropy.
