Give reasons:
(a) We flap wet clothes in the air before spreading them.

Reason

  1. According to the first law of motion, a body wants to be at rest until and unless an external force is applied to it.
  2. The water droplets present in the clothes are in a state of rest.
  3. When we give a flap to the clothes, the clothes are in a state of motion, but the water droplets try to maintain their rest due to inertia.
  4. Thus water droplets will be separated from the clothes and fall downwards due to gravity.
  5. Now the clothes are left with less water, so the evaporation rate will be faster, thus drying the clothes quickly.

Hence, we flap wet clothes in the air before spreading them.
