Reasons why Hydrogen chloride gas is not collected over water

  1. To get collected over water is means stay in the surface of water without getting dissolved in it.
  2. A gas needs to dissolve ions into the solvent, this is known as the polarity of solubility.
  3. Hydrogen chloride gas is highly soluble when it comes to water. Hence it do not remain on the surface of water as it quickly gets dissolved in it.
