Solution

The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several meters away, but to get the smell of the cold food you have to go close because:

  • Particles of matter move continuously. At low temperatures their kinetic energy is low but as we apply heat the kinetic energy increases.
  • The particles present in hot sizzling food possess greater energy in the form of kinetic energy and show diffusion at a greater speed.
  • Particles of cold food do not have kinetic energy so doesn't show diffusion and hence we have to go close.
