Solution

Breathing rate increases during vigorous exercising because in human beings constant supply of energy is required for exercise. This energy is obtained in the form of ATP, through oxidation of glucose in each cell. Oxygen is obtained through breathing. During vigorous exercising, more ATP is required for cellular respiration. Hence the breathing rate increases during vigorous exercising.
