1. It is a genetic disorder caused by recessive genes located on the X chromosome.

2. This type of inheritance pattern is called X-linked inheritance

3. Males have only one X chromosome whereas females have two X chromosomes.

4. Therefore, in males, only one defective X chromosome is enough to cause color blindness while two defective X chromosomes are required to cause color blindness in females.

5. Thus, it is more common in men than in women.
