Solution

In the hot summer months, the leaves of herbaceous plants wilt at noon because

  1. The rate of transpiration exceeds the rate of absorption of water by roots.
  2. The cells, therefore, lose turgidity.
  3. Therefore, in the hot summer months leaves of herbaceous plants wilt at noon.
  4. Wilting is the condition in plants in which cells lose their turgidity and young leaves and stems droop etc.
  5. It results because of the excess of transpiratory water loss over absorption.
  6. Water escapes from the leaves through stomata by the process called transpiration.
