Solution

Wilting of Plant's leaves during midday:

  1. Wilting is the loss of turgidity of leaves and other soft aerial parts causing drooping, folding, and rolling.
  2. Leaves of some plants wilt during midday and recover in the evening.
  3. In some plants, e.g. Balsam, the leaves of the plants wilt during midday in spite of well-watered soil.
  4. In such cases, the rate of transpiration during midday exceeds the rate of absorption of water by the roots.
  5. More water is lost in transpiration as compared to absorbing it from the soil.
  6. The cells, therefore, lose turgidity.
