Question

Give the balanced equations for reactions of aqueous ammonia with the following:

Lead nitrate

Open in App
Solution

Reaction with lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2:

  • Ammonium hydroxide(NH4OH) reacts with lead nitrate solution to produce a white precipitate of Pb(OH)2, which is insoluble in excess of ammonium hydroxide.
  • One mole of Pb(NO3)2 reacts with two moles of NH4OH to form one mole of Pb(OH)2 and two moles of NH4NO3.

The balanced chemical equation is:

Pb(NO3)2(aq)+2NH4OH(aq)Pb(OH)2(s)+2NH4NO3(aq)
