Give the description of the Mauryan territory?

Open in App
Solution

Instructions: The answer to this question can be given by writing about the extent of the Mauryan empire, about its important geographical features together with explaining about other areas that were covered under the Mauryan territory.

Solution: The Mauryan empire extended from modern Afghanistan to Karnataka in the South and Bengal in the East. Initially the empire was confined to Magadha and the adjoining regions, but later on all the mahajanapadas of those times became a part of its territory.
The Empire included almost all the important geographical features of the Indian subcontinent. The borders of the Mauryan Empire extended from the Hindukush Mountains in the North West to the Great Indian Desert of Gujarat. It also included the Malwa Plateau and the vast forests of central India.
Various important river valleys, such as the Indo-Gangetic valley, Krishna-Tungabhadra valley and the Godavari valley were part of this empire. All these river valleys together with Gujarat, Punjab and the Malwa region were very fertile and had densely populated villages and towns.
There were other areas too which were important as centres of trade and crafts. Important trade routes passed through these areas connecting large cities, sea ports and even other countries.
