  1. Chloroplasts are green-colored plastids present in plant cells that are responsible for photosynthesis (the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy). They contain a photosynthetic pigment known as chlorophyll.
  2. The function of chloroplasts is they absorb light energy and prepare food for the plant. Hence, they are known as the kitchen of the cells.
