(a) a saturated hydrocarbon

(b) an unsaturated hydrocarbon with a double bond

Solution

(a) Saturated hydrocarbons are those compounds that have single bonds within their structure. For example alkanes like Methane(CH4), Ethane(C2H6), Propane(C3H8), etc

The structures of Ethane(C2H6), Propane(C3H8) are as follows.

CH3-CH3EthaneCH3-CH2-CH3Propane

(b) Unsaturated hydrocarbons are those compounds that have double or triple bonds. Unsaturated hydrocarbons with double bonds are alkenes like Ethene(C2H4), Propene(C3H6), Butene(C4H8).

The structures of Ethene(C2H4), Propene(C3H6), Butene(C4H8) is as follows.

CH2=CH2Ethene,CH3-CH=CH2Propene,CH3-CH2-CH=CH2Butene
