Solution

  • Post-fertilization events:-
a) The diploid zygote develops into an embryo that forms the future plant.
    b) The endosperm cells serve as a source of nutrition for the developing embryo.
      c) The ovule becomes the seed. The seed takes nourishment from the endosperm for its growth.
      d) The ovary undergoes cell division and gets transformed into a fruit. The wall of the ovary becomes the wall of the fruit known as the pericarp. The pericarp can be further divided into three layers: epicarp, mesocarp, and endocarp.
      e) In most of the plants, the antipodals and synergids disintegrate before, during or immediately after fertilization.
        f) The outer and inner integuments of the ovule become the testa or the seed coat of the seed.
          g) Petals and sepals fall off.
