Question

Give two disadvantages of transpiration.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Transpiration is the process of water loss from leaves of plants through stomata.
  2. Transpiration involves mainly the xylem cells which become active during the absorption process by the roots.
  3. Transpiration is the biological process by which water is lost in the form of water vapor from the aerial parts of the plants.

Disadvantages of transpiration:

  1. The two disadvantages of transpiration are as follows:
  2. Wilting: Wilting or loss of turgidity is quite common during noon due to transpiration being higher than the rate of water absorption.
  3. Wilting reduces photosynthesis and other metabolic activities.
  4. Reduced growth: Transpiration reduces the availability of water inside the plant.
  5. Water deficit decreases the growth and hence the plant gives a stunted appearance.
