(a) Acute disease :

  1. These diseases are not transmitted from an infected person to healthy person and are known as non-communicable or non-infectious diseases.
  2. These are influenced by the lifestyle, health and habitat of a person.
  3. The diseases that occur suddenly for a short period of time and do not cause long term effect are known as acute disease.
  4. If the disease last for long, then it turns into chronic disease.

Example : Cold and cough.

(b) Chronic diseases:

  1. It is a type of non-communicable or non-infectious diseases.
  2. These are influenced by the lifestyle, health and habitat of a person.
  3. The diseases that last for a long time even for a lifetime and causes long term effects on human health are known as chronic diseases.
  4. If the disease is lasting for 3 or more years, it is said to be a chronic disease.

Example : Diabetes and arthritis.

(c) Infectious diseases :

  1. The diseases that can pass from one person to another are known as communicable or infectious diseases.
  2. These diseases are caused by the attack of pathogens like bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoans and parasites.

Example : Malaria and chickenpox.
