CLiquidSolid

Solution

  • Colloids are mixtures in which microscopic particles (in the size 1 to 1000 nm) dispersed in a medium
  • There are different types of colloids present depending upon the different states of the dispersed phase and the dispersion medium
  • Dispersed phase - the colloidal particle which is dispersed in the medium
  • Dispersion medium - the medium in which colloidal particles are dispersed

Thus we can give the typical names for colloids in the question

  1. When the Dispersed phase is liquid and the dispersion medium is gas the name of the colloidal solution formed is aerosol. examples:- cloud, mist
  2. When both the Dispersed phase and the dispersion medium are liquid the colloidal solution formed is called an Emulsion. examples:- milk, hair cream
  3. When the Dispersed phase is liquid and the dispersion medium is solid the colloidal solution formed is called Gels. examples:- curd, cheese
