Infections or diseases which are transmitted through sexual intercourse are collectively called sexually transmitted infections.

These are spread by different types of pathogens.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a bacterium that causes gonorrhoea.

Syphilis is caused by a bacterium, Treponema pallidum.

Chlamydiasis is also caused by bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis.

Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and is therefore a viral disease.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus which can cause genital warts.

Trichomoniasis is caused by a protozoan called Trichomonas vaginalis.

Hepatitis B is caused by hepatitis B virus.

Thus, out of all the diseases mentioned above, only 3 diseases- gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydiasis are bacterial diseases.
