Mitosis produces two daughter cells in which each cell is diploid and genetically identical to the parent cell. It contains the same number of chromosomes.
In meiosis, four daughter cells are produced in which each cell is haploid and are not identical to the parent cell. It contains only one-half of the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
