Solution

Meiosis is a type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes in the parent cell by half. It converts a diploid cell— one with two sets of chromosomes to haploid cells- ones with a single set of chromosomes. It is responsible for the production of gametes— sex cells, or sperm and eggs.
Hence, the cell division that results in half the number of chromosomes in daughter cells is meiosis.
