Greenhouse gases:
Certain gases allow solar radiation to pass in but prevent the heat radiation from passing out. Such gases are called greenhouse gases (GHG).
Carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons, and nitrogen oxide are examples of GHGs.
Carbon dioxide has the highest warming effect about 60%. Methane (20%), chlorofluorocarbons (14%), and nitrogen oxide (6%) are also responsible for the greenhouse effect.
Water vapors and ozone have a minimal warming effect.
