  • In all bilateral animals, three germ layers are found. These are ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm.
  • Out of these, mesoderm is found in the early embryonic stage which forms mesenchyma, mesothelium, non-epithelial blood cells(coelomocytes). Mesothelium lines coeloms.
  • The gonads (testes or ovaries) are derived from the three sources. These are(i)mesodermal epithelium lining the posterior abdominal wall, from lateral somatic mesoderm (ii) Underlying mesenchyma, from intermediate mesoderm and (iii) primordial germ cells.
