In the process of grafting, as an example select the root system of one plant (stock) and the shoot system of another plant (scion). The stock selected is a plant which is efficient in absorbing water and minerals, has a deep root system and is disease-resistant. The scion selected has desirable characters like large-size, better yield giving and nutritious fruits. The ends of the stock and scion are cut obliquely and joined together and allowed to grow. So, the resulting plant produced is a superior quality plant obtained by combining superior rootstocks with plants that display superior growth, foliage, and fruiting capabilities.
