Solution

White lead in the oil paintings get blackened due to action of H2S present in atmosphere in traces.
Pb(OH)2 .2 PbCO3 + 3 H2S 3 PbS + 2 CO2 + 4 H2OWhite lead Black

When blackened PbS are treated with H2O2, the PbS is oxidized to PbSO4 which is white in colour. So the painting is restored again.

PbS + 4 H2O2 PbSO4 + 4 H2O White
