The correct option is D 38
Total number of pets Harry had $= n$
Given ,
Number of dogs given to Robert $= 8$
Number of cats given to Eva $= 7$
Harry was left with the remaining pets. $= 23$
$∴$ Harry was left with the remaining pets = Total number of pets Harry had - Number of dogs given to Robert - Number of cats given to Eva
$\Rightarrow 23 = n - 8 - 7$
$\Rightarrow 23 = x - 15$

Add 15 to both the sides to eliminate constant form RHS
$\Rightarrow 23 + 15 = x - 15 + 15$
$\Rightarrow x = 38$
Total number of pets is 38.
